Core Competencies

Imagine a plumber that cannot plumb, an electrician that cannot wire or a carpenter that cannot read blueprints. These are the fundamental knowledge and skills which are necessary for the aforementioned trades. Some may view these items Core Competencies, which they are.
Depending upon the author and/or source, there are several Core Competencies upon which business success depends. The more adept the entrepreneur may be across these competencies, the greater the level of success attained.
The Pest Management Industry shares many similarities to other service industry trades. However, there are a number of factors which are unique to the PM Industry which the entrepreneur must contend.
It is clear that there are a number of criticisms of “the big box” type companies upon which many agree. These criticisms may or may not be well deserved. While the reasons for the shortcomings of these organizations may be subject to debate, some contributing factors may be visually obvious.
Assuredly serving as the captain of a large ship may be a difficult duty. However, logic dictates that this role cannot be successfully fulfilled without extensive prior sailing experience. Yet, this is what we might see upon further examination of organizations experiencing problematic situations.
No one is capable of consistently making appropriate business decisions without the relevant experience and knowledge to draw upon for the basis of such decisions. Yet this occurs in business each day.
What we need to do is to assure that this does not happen in your business! This is done by working to assure that relevant Core Competencies are well known and improved upon as needed.
You see, excellence is a journey, it is not a destination.
